Hall/Dining Table

We designed and made this hall table for clients who live in a compact modern condominium, and the couple wanted it to double as a dining table when they had company. Other constraints were that there should be no removable leaves (storage!), and that it should speak nicely to their colour palette and existing artwork.

The contrasting ebonized maple legs were an obvious start, but the right colour wood (we usually eschew stain) was a challenge. I had some character black locust that I had milled years ago, and the colour and variations in figure were just what the project needed. Ebonizing the hard maple breadboard ends and pinning them (without glue) using hand cut brass pins were the perfect details to achieve the look we wanted. Invisible hinges and adjustable glides enable all folding to feel and function like natural parts of the table.
